Cerec crowns done in one single appointment
From Australia

Hi Ade’, Welmien and team!

I am loving my new smile still and as I promised I have written an short clip for your new website!
‘I flew from Sydney Australia to see Dr Ade’ Meyer, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! The team was incredible and immediately put me at ease in preparation for the treatment that I had in front of me. I was in for the day, from 8am to 4:30pm – and I was blown away by the results! I had 19 old metal based crowns replaced with new crowns – each crown was cut in front of my eyes and was ready in about 11 minutes!
Before the treatment my gums used to bleed at the slightest touch – and they have not bled since the old crowns were replaced with the new pocelain crowns ! I have a new smile and healthier gums and I will be flying back in the next year to see Dr Meyer, Welmien and the rest of the team again.
thx so much!!

I love your work!!

Dr Nadia, jy is ‘n wonderwerker!!!

PS. Ek het alreeds 3 mense verwys na julle toe, en sal aanhou daarmee, want dit sal so lekker wees om nog mense te sien smile na ‘n fantastiese tandarts besoek by julle.

Nogmaals baie baie dankie, julle absoluut fantasties!!!

Liefde en groete!

Doreen

Replacing front crowns and cerec Veneers making a beautiful smile
From Australia

Dagse. Ek het in Desember laas jaar 11 veneers laat doen by Ade.

To me, the 1st and most important aspect I look at when going to any doctor or company is “Do they make me feel comfortable and at ease” … This was exactly what I got when I first stepped into Dr. Adé’s practice. The atmosphere is alive and vibrant, not 1 frown or sour face to look at! Being a technology freak – I was amazed when entering the practice; everything is top class, neat – the best on the market. This gave me the satisfaction that I was getting state of the art treatment, which should be on top of everyone’s list as there are still some dentist out there trying to make a quick buck and giving you solutions that will not give you a lifetime guarantee. I had a full mouth rehabilitation done, all in one day – at first 1 would be scary to know you are going in at 6am – till 6pm and not know what to expect. This is where this Dr. and assistant made the worlds difference. Gentle, talkative, joking – asking if I am okay the entire day – made me feel special and the day turned out fun! I am not even mentioning the massaging dentist chair – wow! Walked out of there, and to me, a smile makes a difference – and I can smile at the whole world now, loud and proud and I won’t feel ashamed of showing some teeth! I got the designer smile I very much needed and always wanted! I will most definitely recommend Dr. Adé Meyer to anyone for any work that needs to be done.
Thank you Dr. Meyer.

My short story : I broke my 2 front teeth at the age of 12 after a fall. Over the years the teeth discoloured badly and I had them replaced with crowns in 2005. These crowns unfortunately also broke during 2012 because of constant gnawing when I was asleep. The result was terrible looking teeth with me having no confidence to smile anymore. After a visit to dr. Adé in the same year, all of that changed. Not only were the broken teeth replaced by her, but the actual problem leading to the broken crowns, namely my gnawing at night, was fixed by her with new back teeth to give me an improved bite, whereby the possible breaking again of the new teeth due to gnawing was now eliminated.

The procedure left me in total awe, not only because the technology used was simply out of this world, but because the end result was really something to smile about!

Thank you dr. Adé, Welmien and René for your team effort to fix that what was broken almost 30 years ago.

I was worried the cosmetic dentistry you promised may not look authentic, but did you prove me wrong! In just one sitting you gave me a brand new smile, one that I feel good about. You and your assistant turned me into a big fan. The veneers and crowns you gave me look so real even under a bright light with a magnifying glass. I admire your dedication, precision and care and recommend you to anybody, especially those who might be sceptical or nervous about dentists.

Dental Flossing

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestShare

Oh no, not again! WHY oh WHY do I need to floss??

So why do I need to floss my teeth, if it only bleeds when I do, the dental floss gets stuck between my teeth and it is so time consuming?

Here are the answers:

My gums bleed when I floss:

Gums bleed because they are infected, this is because they have not been cleaned properly between the teeth, yes with the floss…

So, the more you floss, the less the gums would bleed, because you are getting rid of the low grade gum infection.  If you poke softly on healthy skin, it would not bleed, if you do the exact same on infected, red, swollen and inflamed skin, you most probably would break the skin and it would bleed profusely… Exactly the same with bleeding gums and flossing!

The floss gets stuck between my teeth:

In 99% of the cases where floss gets stuck, it is most probably an old filling (one of those silver fillings) which is not put in flush with the tooth.  This means you can get the floss in, but cannot get it out unless you pull it sideways!  A simple dental x-ray would confirm this, and it is then best to replace the ill-fitting filling and/or crown, with a computer generated porcelain filling and/or crown.  Ill fitting crowns or fillings promotes, as we see now, gum problems and tooth decay.  If one cannot floss in a problem area like this, the gums will ALWAYS bleed, and there would, inevitably be tooth decay. (Notice that I said CAN NOT floss, instead of DOES NOT floss). In these cases of floss getting stuck and torn between the problem areas, there is nothing you can do about this.  You would have to go and see your dentist, so that an x-ray is taken, to confirm an ill fitting filling.  Once these fillings have been replaced properly, you would be able to floss easily!

I’m too tired to floss:

Once you have solved the abovementioned problems, flossing should be effortless and quick.  This should not take you longer than 2 minutes once per day in the evenings before you go to bed.  Get the right technique from your dentist and within a week or two flossing should be second nature.  Always floss in front of a mirror, so that you can see exactly what you are doing! If you want to skip, keep in mind that all the food trapped between your teeth will start to ferment whilst you sleep…this causes severe bad breath, gum disease and eventually tooth decay… This should be motivation enough to floss every evening!  What is two minutes?

Happy flossing!

Pregnancy and my Teeth

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestShare

Fact or Myth?

Being pregnant is not just special it’s a miracle! Its time for bonding, preparation, adaption and gaining knowledge. Your body is going through a tremendous amount of change, and the hormones maintaining your pregnancy definitely have some effect on your mouth and gums.

Fact

My gums bleed when I brush my teeth

Pregnancy hormones do have an effect on all the ‘linings’ of your body, including the mouth gums and nose. You also have a greater volume of blood running through your body, and these factors contribute to the likelihood of you, having bleeding gums. What can I do about this? The one thing NOT to do, is stop brushing and flossing your teeth because you are scared of the bleeding gums. Brushing TOGETHER with flossing almost three times daily will reduce the overall plaque index (amount of bacteria causing gum disease). Take a multivitamin prescribed by your gynecologist that contains vitamin C. This vitamin strengthens the blood vessels, and may reduce this type of bleeding. The RDA-recommended daily allowance for pregnant woman of vitamin C is 50mg.

Myth

During my pregnancy all my teeth became brittle and broke, because the calcium was taken out of them.

It is not true that calcium is lost from your teeth during pregnancy. The calcium you and your baby need is provided by the intake of a necessary healthy diet during your pregnancy. If, however your dietary calcium intake is not enough, your body will take the calcium from the stores in your bones not your teeth.

What can I do about this?

Get enough in take of dairy products, which contain a good source of calcium. Take a multivitamin prescribed by your gynecologist containing calcium. Now that we have covered the biggest fact and myth in pregnancy, here are some good tips and information on your teeth and dental health: If you are planning on getting pregnant, have a good and thorough dental check-up BEFORE you fall pregnant. This absolutely has to include a set of preferably digital x-rays (these x-rays have the lowest dose of radiation). The x-rays show us, what the eye cannot detect from in-between and inside the teeth. If you have ill-fitting crowns, leaking fillings, old silver fillings or tooth decay REPLACE and/or REPAIR them as soon as you can. You can never be sure if that leaking or old filling would give you problems during your pregnancy. A good oral hygiene program at the dental practice is of great value. Have your teeth cleaned once every month by your oral hygienist or dental professional. This will greatly improve the overall health of your mouth during your pregnancy. If you are pregnant already, and suffer from toothache, you must see your dentist immediately. If an x-ray is indicated, make sure that the dentist uses digital x-rays, as the radiation dose is extremely low. The dental practitioner will also provide you with a lead apron. If you have a broken tooth without tooth decay, it can be fixed without having to give you an injection. This will be a temporary measurement only. If you have an aching tooth with infection, you have to get rid of the infection immediately. In this case it is indicated to have an injection rather than have the infection in your tooth posing a risk to you and/or your unborn baby.

Baby’s teeth: your babies teeth begin to develop between the third and sixth month of pregnancy, so it is important for you to eat a healthy balanced diet receiving sufficient amounts of nutrients. Savor every moment of your pregnancy, You and Your unborn baby are so special! Dr. Adé Meyer

Why should we have yearly dental check-ups?

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestShare

With the holidays coming up, I was asked to write an article on why we should have our teeth checked-out before we embark on our holiday journey (or, for some of us this means staying home).

The correct answer should be, we should have a dental check-up at least once a year, and not specifically before our holidays. There are however concerns that dental professionals will be away over Christmas and New Year period.  Should you be abroad, you are left to the mercy of chance if you have problems with your teeth.  You never know where you might end up getting your treatment done.  Heaven forbid! Thus, prevention is better than cure!  While you are still in the driving seat of your own decision-making, take the time, and have your yearly dental check-up! Please take note, that a check-up doesn’t entail a fifteen-minute appointment with your dentist prodding and poking in your teeth with sharp scary instruments, and then you’re all done.

A proper dental check-up should include the following:

1. Intra-oral photographs. These are photographs taken inside your mouth with a special camera that can take close-up shots of each tooth.  The dentist can very easily detect EARLY tooth decay (that would not even show up on x-ray at this stage).   This gives you and the dentist a bird’s eye view of the status of your teeth and gums.  Dentists can make better decisions when they can actually SEE the teeth close-up! Make sure your dentist has got one of these magnificent diagnostic tools!

2. Digital dental x-rays. If you are a role model patient that does go the dentist every year, you should have these digital x-rays taken every five years. These are priceless in detection of tooth decay, ill-fitting crowns, absess formation under root canal filled teeth and benign or malignant tumours. These include a panoramic x-ray as well as a set of x-rays tooth for tooth.  This is a small price to pay for the amount of information gathered.

3. A full scale and polish by a qualified oral hygienist. The oral hygienist can get you up to speed with your flossing and brushing technique and a good fluoride treatment. NOW you are good to go! The bottom line is, choose your dentist carefully (whilst your dentist is also not on holiday), have your yearly check-ups and sort out the problems before they sort you out on holiday!

Happy Holidays! Drive Safely
